“Recoding the Shirt: fabric dynamism & construction performance” is the name of the project that invites students to rethink the construction of the shirt

The best work, carefully selected by a jury of industry experts, will be showcased at Milano Unica

Milan, February 4, 2025 – Chargeurs PCC Fashion Technologies, a global leader in the production of fabrics, interlinings and interior components for clothing, and Istituto Marangoni Firenze, together to enhance the creativity of young talents in the fashion world.

Thanks to the joint project “Recoding the Shirt: fabric dynamism & construction performance”, twenty students of the Fashion Design course were able to explore the construction of a shirt in an innovative manner through the interaction between fabric and interlining.

In the past weeks, the young designers have used the DHJ line interlinings and the fabrics from the Brennet brand, a hallmark of excellence in the Swiss shirt-making tradition recently acquired by Chargeurs PCC and the subject of a relaunch plan aimed at meeting the growing demands of the modern consumer. The project with Istituto Marangoni Firenze therefore marks a key moment in this journey.

A selected jury has chosen in recent days the best creation, which will be officially presented at the stand of the Chargeurs PCC group at the 40th edition of Milano Unica from 4 to 6 February 2025, offering a young designer an opportunity for visibility in a prestigious context. Specifically, the garment created by the student Sara Peng, who explores the theme of migration, will be exhibited.

Gianluca Tanzi, CEO and Chairman of Chargeurs PCC, commented: “We are proud to have consolidated our partnership with Istituto Marangoni Firenze. At Chargeurs PCC we believe in the new generations: they offer an opportunity to innovate and stimulate the research and development activity that has always distinguished our company as a pioneer in its sector. We have chosen to have the students work on Brennet shirt fabrics focusing on performance, high quality and comfort: peculiar characteristics of this brand.”

Francesca Giulia Tavanti, Director of Education of Istituto Marangoni Firenze, commented: “The renewal of this partnership with Chargeurs PCC for a second year, of which we are proud, confirms the school’s commitment to establishing strategic connections with leading industry players. This project provides our students with the opportunity to engage with the evolution of tailoring, experimenting with new interpretations of men’s shirt codes through an innovative and creative approach.”

In Sara Peng’s work, migration is represented as an exhausting journey full of memories. The shirt, fitted at the waist with gathers, features a design on the back that evokes the spine and symbolises the physical and emotional burden borne during the journey. The central hump evokes the human condition, while the puffed sleeves and their tight fit at the bottom add an element of tension and dynamism, emphasising the dialogue between fabric and interlining.

The challenge for the students was to create unique pieces that express the dynamism of the fabric and the structural qualities of DHJ interlinings, combining technical innovation and artistic vision. A creative process capable of providing young designers with the opportunity to engage with the excellence and cutting-edge approach that distinguish Chargeurs PCC Fashion Technologies, enhancing the quality and performance of Brennet materials with a contemporary perspective. Aligned with its environmental commitment, Chargeurs PCC supplied students with only stock remnants as work materials, to give them a second life in the name of creativity.

The students’ projects were supervised by Chargeurs PCC’s experienced staff, who provided them with tutorials and technical support, putting their know-how at their disposal.

The partnership between Chargeurs PCC and Istituto Marangoni Firenze was launched last academic year with the creation of the Chargeurs PCC Academy, an initiative aimed at training future professionals in the textile and clothing sector.

The project will be presented at the Brennet stand: Shirt Avenue HALL 24 – stand A17 – A19 Milano Unica – Rho Fiera Milano – 4-6 February 2025.
